The numbers of people replying "it's ok to be scammed of $500 a night for a dirty hotel in Paris because there is so much demand" made explicit me how done the West is - they are literally explaining to a French guy why it's ok that Paris rape them as a visitor
Proper and decent cultures which are thriving do not mog their tourists, they take pride in welcoming them to the best of their ability, and impress them, show them how nice it is to be in that country, how good is the food, how refined and cultured are the arts, how elegant and subtle is the language, etc. They want you to fall in love with the place and come back
The Greek used to believe that any visitor could be a God in disguise, and thus expanded max hospitality to all, even the hobbo-looking ones, in case it was Zeus/X playing a trick on them: that is hospitality, making everyone feel welcomed, no matter who they are
"Hospitality? Forget about it, we're all about max extracting from our visitors so that they hate their stay, feel diminished and violated" said every single already dead culture ever
I'm not talking just about decadence here, it's more like necromancy. The Western culture as a whole is dead, sacrificed for return maxing, and the Westerners are explaining to you that it is ok to be literally scammed because "there is so much demand". How long do you think the demand is gonna last when you literally brutalize it and justify this aggression on the altar of profits?
There are only so many burgers/similar who are so enthralled by the myth of Paris that they are willing to be literally scammed to experience it
I'm a French guy. I brought my foreign girlfriend to Paris. I splurged to impress her here. My splurging $500 got us less than what $150 in a decent country would: I was ashamed of my country, culture, and peers, because this goes beyond the money - our $500/night did not buy us decency in Paris. Seems like the bare minimum decency here is approaching 4 figs a night
I'm a French yes, but I'm not retarded. When I propose to her, I'll not bring her to Paris, the supposed city of love. I'll bring her to Moscow where I can arrange with the local staff an amazing moment, because they actually care if I have a nice stay and spend a good time in their country. Or maybe Bali. Or Tokyo. But not London, not NY, not Zurich, not Berlin. Those cities are all decadent. What I've experienced in Paris and Zurich or London is the equivalent of a $200 menu restaurant chef pooping in your plate and daring you to ask if you got a problem with it
Arrogance precedes the fall, always.
Paris? Ded
London? Gone
NY/SF? Are you retarded?!
Enjoyers of good food, proper hospitality, decency, care in the work well done, attention to detail, sense of service: they are looking East, not West
The West is living on borrowed time, and fast burning through it: it's a slow exit scam of the social capital accumulated over centuries, while the locals explain to you why this makes economic sense. Where is your soul?! Where is your pride? You've traded it for a few €, devoid of any shame
It's not a matter of money, cost or price, it's about of respect and decency. There are very few of these left in the West
Few see it now, soon it will be obvious.

A clear sign of how the West has fallen:
$300-500/night in center of Paris get you a small room, potentially unclean, unfriendly reception, poor food, standard breakfast, etc.
$450-500 in Moscow? Get ready to experience true luxury, >>> $2k/night Parisian fancy 5* hotels
